Part-Time Jobs For Stay At Home Moms

Being a mom is great, it can be both challenging and rewarding at the same time. Currently, more and more moms are opting to stay at home with their kids over returning back to work and a steady paycheck.

Whether because of expensive childcare, irregular work hours, or just plain wanting to be there for your children; to see them grow up, the desire to stay at home with your kids is strong. You may be wondering, however, is this possible to do without having to downgrade my lifestyle or to live on a tight budget; isn’t raising children costly, to begin with?

These are all valid concerns but choosing to stay at home with the kids does not mean that your days of earning some money are over. There are some great ways that you can make a little money on the side while still keeping the idea of being a stay-at-home mom who is available for her children intact.

Since you are likely choosing to stay at home with your kids because you want to spend time with them, the idea of finding something that is very time-consuming, even if done at home, will not be your first choice. There are, luckily, quite a few great part-time jobs for stay-at-home moms, so, let’s take a look at the top five.

Child Care Provider

Depending on how old your child is, this can be a great way to help supplement the missing income from staying at home, while also offering some similarly aged playmates for your little one. As we are focusing on part-time jobs, a before and/or afterschool homecare service may be a great option for you.

I have a friend who was a full-time teacher, then after having three kids of her own, she felt heartbroken to have to leave them every day. Despite receiving fulfillment in teaching the kids at school, it just wasn’t enough for her anymore.

She decided to take a year off and be at home with her kids; she became more involved with taking them to school and visited the school as a volunteer. So much so, that many of the other parents there became familiar with her.

She was soon approached by the parents in her children’s class to see if she would be willing to help watch their children before and after school. This was an easy decision for her, not only would her children get to see their school friends more, but since they all attended the same school it was an easy way to make some extra money.

Tutoring

part time online tutoring jobs

Is there a school subject that you were always the star student in? There are numerous part-time tutoring services out there just looking for well-educated tutors to help them educate their young customers.

Some tutoring services specialize in one subject, like math, whereas others have a few to choose from, science, English, or languages. The hours are typically evenings and weekends, so, if your significant other is home during this time, then this could be the perfect part-time job for the stay-at-home mom that you are.

If English is your favorite subject, and you have a computer with a camera and a microphone in it, then might I also suggest teaching to students overseas? These programs are structured where you can choose how many hours you want, depending on your time zone.

In some cases, the interview process takes a couple of weeks and a few observations on the part of the employer, but once you pass this process it becomes smooth sailing. Once again, I have a friend who has three kids, she teaches after she puts them to bed, or she can wake up early in the morning before they get up. She makes as much of an income as if she was working a full-time job and never seeing her kids.

Errand Running

If you have ever watched the show The Big Bang Theory, then you may have seen the episode where Sheldon hires Stuart to run some errands for him, like to stand in a lineup for him at an event. This is a legitimate job, people can actually get paid to do errands for other people.

Now, since you have kids, I am not suggesting you take them to an event and wait for hours in a lineup, but some people require errands like picking up groceries at a store, or taking their dog for a walk, or even mowing the lawn.

If you feel as though you can tag on some of these errands with your own daily tasks, like picking up a shirt from the cleaners while you are doing your own grocery run, then this may be the part-time stay-at-home mom job for you.

Freelance Work

This type of part-time work has many benefits, in that you can work when it is convenient for you, stop when you need a break, and offer your expertise to those who need it. There are a variety of freelancer sites out there from which to choose, simply do your research and select the one that works best for you.

Maybe you have some wicked computer skills, are a wordsmith and love researching, or maybe you are a whiz at creating amazing resumes and cover letters. Why not offer these services to others and get paid to do them?

Affiliate Marketing

If you are feeling more adventurous, and maybe you have always dreamed of creating your own home-based business, then maybe Wealthy Affiliate is another option you may like to try? This program offers you the chance to work from home, for a few hours a day, helps you to earn a long-term income, and ultimately be your own boss.

The company is relatively new, but have over 10 years of experience helping others, and to help you navigate the service, they offer a live chat session, more if you choose to pay a fee.

Essentially, they want to help you succeed in your business dream.

There are two programs from which to choose, the Starter Program, a great way to start out if you really aren’t sure where you are going with this, and the Premium Program. Certain features are available to you in either program, such as websites, keyword research tool, and the beginner training course, while the Premium Program gives you that and then some.

What I like about this program is that if you have been mulling over the idea of how to turn a hobby or interest into a profitable business, they can help you with that. But, if you like the idea of doing an at-home business but just don’t have the idea yet, they can help you with that too.
Also, since there is a free option, you can give it a test run and don’t have to feel as though you have wasted money if you change your mind and decide that it just isn’t right for you. There are lots of people also willing to help you out, wanting to share their wisdom with you, and that’s pretty cool.

Final Thoughts

Wanting to find part-time jobs for stay-at-home moms can sometimes seem like a pipe-dream. I know of many women who are miserable at their current jobs because they feel as though they are missing those precious years of watching their children grow up and hate having to answer to someone else.

Taking charge of your life can be an exciting and exhilarating experience, yet many moms are very trepidatious to try, fearing that they will not be able to provide for their family. Knowing that you can stay at home and bring in some income can do a lot to put a mom at ease, and a happy mom is a happy family, and isn’t that what life is about?
